In a developing country like India, rail transport has special significance among various means of transport. Development of railways has had a favorable impact on our economy because railways transport agricultural produce from one place to another enabling proper distribution across regions resulting in food availability for people. Rail transport also favorably impacts agricultural development. Similarly, rail transport makes important contribution in facilitating proper development of commerce, trade and industries by enabling easy and quick transportation of goods from one place to another. Additionally, the freight revenues earned by railways significantly contribute to national income and help maintain a balanced economy.
